Metron Energy Applications e' stata fondata in Grecia nel 1997 per offrire soluzioni integrate per il settore Oil & Gas. Da allora, l'azienda e' cresciuta rapidamente fino a raggiungere una posizione di rilievo nazionale e internazionale, espandendo le proprie attivita' ad altri settori, come quello energetico, idrico, marittimo e l'industria alimentare, ed e' coinvolta in progetti in piu' di 45 Paesi in tutto il mondo.

Formula Techniki S.A. e' stata incaricata di installare il sistema di rilevazione incendi presso il nuovo terminal di stoccaggio e distribuzione di prodotti petroliferi a Tema, in Ghana, come subappaltatore di Metron Energy Applications. Avendo gia' collaborato con Hochiki Europe in progetti precedenti, anche allora in aree pericolose, l'installatore ha scelto di rivolgersi nuovamente al produttore giapponese.

Trattandosi di un ambiente pericoloso, e' stata scelta la gamma di rivelatori di fumo, segnalatori acustici, moduli e pulsanti SIL2 di Hochiki. Questa gamma di dispositivii antincendio specializzati non solo soddisfa, ma supera i severi standard di sicurezza richiesti, rappresentando una svolta nel campo della sicurezza antincendio.

SIL e' l'acronimo di Safety Integrity Level  ed e' un sistema utilizzato per quantificare e qualificare i requisiti dei sistemi di sicurezza strumentati. La Commissione Elettrotecnica Internazionale (IEC) ha introdotto gli standard industriali per aiutare gli operatori a quantificare i requisiti di sicurezza per le applicazioni piu' pericolose.

Questi standard sono stati ampiamente adottati nelle industrie degli idrocarburi, del petrolio e del gas come mezzo per migliorare la sicurezza e la disponibilita' dei sistemi di sicurezza strumentati.

"La sfida principale per noi era che la nostra azienda ha sede in Grecia e l'installazione e' avvenuta  in Ghana, a quasi 7.000 km di distanza. Siamo stati scelti per la nostra esperienza nel lavoro in ambienti pericolosi come questo. Dovevamo rispettare un timimg rigoroso, quindi la comunicazione tra noi, il nostro cliente e il team di Hochiki e' stata fondamentale.

Il team tecnico di Hochiki e' stato di grande aiuto per quanto riguarda l'installazione tecnica, in particolare perche' il sistema di rivelazione incendi dell'edificio in cui stavamo lavorando doveva essere collegato al sistema di rivelazione incendi principale dell'intero complesso.

As this was a hazardous environment, Hochiki’s SIL-2 detection range of smoke sensors, sounders, modules and call points were chosen. This specialist fire detection range not only meets but exceeds the stringent safety standards required, making it a game-changer in the realm of fire safety.

SIL is an acronym for Safety Integrity Level, and is a system used to quantify and qualify the requirements for Safety Instrumented Systems. The International Electro-Technical Commission (IEC) introduced the industry standards to assist operators with quantifying the safety performance requirements for hazardous operations.

These standards have been widely adopted in the hydrocarbon, oil, and gas industries as a means of improving safety and availability of Safety Instrumented Systems.

“The main challenge for us was that we are based in Greece, and this project was taking place in Ghana, almost 7,000km away. We were chosen due to our expertise in working in challenging hazardous environments such as this. We had a strict time schedule to stick to, so communication between us, our client, and the team at Hochiki was vital.

The Hochiki technical team were a great help when it came to the technical installation, particularly as the fire detection system of the building we were working in needed to connect with the main fire detection of the whole complex.
