SETTORE INDUSTRIALE - Technical Metals

 

Fondata nel 1984 in Irlanda, la Technical Metals, e' un’azienda che si occupa di processi di anodizzazione e lavorazione delle superfici per numerosi clienti nei più svariati settori e in particolare industria aerospaziale, difesa, telecomunicazioni, elettronica, architettura urbana,  ingegneria.

 

Recentemente, la Specialised Fire and Security, uno dei fornitori indipendenti di sistemi antincendio piu' conosciuti in Irlanda, si e' aggiudicata l'appalto per aggiornare il sistema di rilevazione incendio presso gli edifici della Technical Metals.

Il quartier generale comprende un gruppo di edifici che ospitano uffici, magazzini logistici e ambienti di produzione ad alto rischio con bagni acidi, calore, fumo e atmosfere corrosive. Caratteristiche ambientali che fin da subito si sono dimostrate una sfida unica per il team tecnico guidato da Tom Skates, che si e' occupato del progetto, e che ha scelto i prodotti Hochiki proteggere questa struttura considerata ad alto rischio.

 

Skates spiega, 

"Inizialmente ci e' stato presentato un progetto che prevedeva l'installazione di multisensori in punti elevati del reparto di anodizzazione. Tuttavia, durante il sopraluogo ci siamo resi conto che questo sarebbe potuto essere un problema. Alcuni fissaggi delle luci si stavano corrodendo a causa dei fumi chimici che si sprigionano dalle apparecchiature sottostanti. Abbiamo consigliato di installare i rilevatori di fiamma a un livello piu' basso, puntando verso l'area sovrastante. In questo modo la zona e' stata messa in sicurezza senza rischi di deterioramento".

 

I multisensori Hochiki e numerosi dispositivi SCI (con isolatore di cortocircuito integrato) sono stati poi installati in tutto il resto dell'edificio, consentendo di rilevare calore e il fumo h24 e di avvisare tempestivamente in caso di emergenza.

 

 

"Questo tipo di impianto produttivo e' naturalmente soggetto a polvere e fumo, che possono causare falsi allarmi. Un requisito fondamentale di questo progetto era ridurre quanto piu' possibile gli allarmi indesiderati. I multisensori sono particolarmente adatti a questo scopo e consentono un approccio flessibile alla rilevazione incendi.

Abbiamo istituito un programma di manutenzione continua con Technical Metals e, nel caso in cui alcune aree dell'edificio dovessero subire cambiamenti, i multisensori Hochiki che abbiamo installato possono essere facilmente adattati al metodo di rilevazione più idoneo, in base alla destinazione d’uso dei vari spazi. Si tratta di un progetto che guarda al futuro".

 

 

Skates aggiunge: "Ho installato sistemi Hochiki per quasi tutta la mia carriera e, quando ho iniziato a collaborare con Specialised Fire and Security quattro anni fa, ho notato che anche qui consigliavano Hochiki ai loro clienti. Parliamo di prodotti ottimi, innovativi e facili da installare".

 

Il progetto antincendio presso Technical Metals e' un fantastico esempio di come la gamma Hochiki sia ampia, versatile e adatta anche ad ambienti ad alto rischio.

 

Established in 1984, and with several awards including The Queen’s Award for Enterprise, Technical Metals, based in Northern Ireland, offers anodising and surface preparation processes to a wide range of customers across the aerospace industry, defence, telecommunications, electronics, street furniture, architecturaland general engineering sectors.

Specialised Fire and Security were awarded the contract to update Technical Metals existing fire detection system which required completely modernising. Established in 2013 the company has grown to be one of the best known and respected independent specialist fire and security providers in Northern Ireland and have quickly earned a reputation for delivering tailored solutions for clients.

Situated on an industrial park, Technical Metals consists of a group of buildings including offices, goods in, packaging and high-risk manufacturing environments with acid baths, heat and smoke and corrosive atmospheres. This presented a unique challenge for the team at Specialised Fire and Security, led by Tom Skates, who chose Hochiki Europe products to help keep this hazardous facility safe.

Tom explains,

“Originally, we were presented with a plan that included multi-sensors situated at high-level points in the adonising department block. However, during a site inspection we realised this would be an issue. Some of the light fixings were corroding due to the chemical fumes rising from adonising equipment below. We recommended that Hochiki flame detectors were fitted at a low level, pointing to the area above. This meant the area was secured without risk of deterioration”.

Hochiki multi-sensors were then fitted throughout the rest of the building allowing for heat and smoke to be detected night or day.

“This kind of manufacturing plant is naturally prone to dust and smoke, which can cause false alarms. A key requirement to this project was to reduce and even eliminate false alarms. Hochiki was chosen because they offer the most reliable products to help protect against false alarms. Multi-sensors are particularly good at this and allow for a flexible approach to fire detection. We have set up an ongoing maintenance programme with Technical Metals which means, should they need to change parts of the building, the Hochiki multi-sensors devices we have fitted can be easily switched to the most applicable detection method required. This is a future proofed project.”

The installation project at Technical Metals is a fantastic example of how Hochiki Europe’s range of products can be used in high-risk environments to help reduce the risk fire poses to people and assets.
